Phar extension is missing

I have ROSA Fresh R7 installed in my laptop.

I tried to install composer as instructed in the magestead installation instructions with this command:

composer global require "richdynamix/magestead"

I am getting the following error:

The phar extension is missing.
Install it or recompile php without --disable-phar

can anyone help me out to resolve this? I searched a while to find a solution but in vain...

Likely you need to install php-phar package. Please check if it helps.
