Install ROSA Desktop Fresh R8 or R9?

Install ROSA Desktop Fresh R8 or R9?

Postby tantrik » 15 May 2017, 19:17

Dear friends,

I tried both ROSA Desktop Fresh R8 and ROSA Desktop Fresh R9 (both 64 bit and PLASMA desktop) from usb flash drive and really impressed. It is user friendly and simple. I have a confusion though. Which one: ROSA Desktop Fresh R8 or ROSA Desktop Fresh R9 should I install in my pc and good for everyday use? Which one is more stable and have support from developers?

Thanks in advance. :D

Hello,

I'm testing R8 and R9 in virtual machines. R8 support ends in 2018. R9 is supported until 2020.

If I had to choose, I would install R9 version. I didn't get problems with it for the moment. I suggest the KDE4 version.

If you prefer Plasma 5 desktop, R9 is better choice. It comes with Plasma 5.9 and will receive Plasma 5.10, 5.11 etc updates later. R8 comes with Plasma 5.7 and no Plasma updates are planned there. Also many KDE applications are KDE4-based in R8 and KF5-based in R9.

Thanks both of you (Pulfer and zorzi) for useful feedback. I will install R9 then.
